The BOC Group: A History

The BOC Group’s history begins six years before the company was founded. In 1880, the brothers Arthur and Leon Brin took out their first patents on a chemical process for separating oxygen. Six years later they founded Brin’s Oxygen Company.

1879   Carl Von Linde founded Linde AG
1886 Foundation of Brin's Oxygen Company Ltd
1906   Brin's changes name to The British Oxygen Company Ltd
1911    Formation of New Zealand Industrial Gases 
1935   Commonwealth Industrial Gases formed in Australia
1990   CIG & NZIG become wholly-owned subsidiaries of The BOC Group
2006   Linde and BOC join forces to become part of The Linde Group 
2019 Linde AG and Praxair complete a merger of equals to form Linde plc
